Love rival found not guilty of attack
A St. David's woman wept tears of relief yesterday after being cleared of attacking a love rival with a glass.
Shree Candace Cannonier, 27, of Lighthouse Road, was cleared of unlawful wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm to Nina Jacobs.
She was also cleared of a lesser charge of unlawful wounding.
After the jury delivered a unanimous verdict, Ms Cannonier told The Royal Gazette : "I am just relieved it's all over, it's been very trying.'' Ms. Cannonier told the court that she had suffered sexual taunts from Ms Jacobs over Kenneth Maybury -- the man they both shared.
Things reached boiling point on May 27 last year when Jacobs suffered a gash just above her eye as the two women fought in Docksider's bar in Hamilton.
Ms Jacobs admitted she had whispered to Cannonier moments before the alleged attack, `I had an exciting time with your man last night'.
The accused said she had then responded, after a few moments, saying: "I hope you enjoyed it,'' which then led to further goading from Ms Jacobs about her sex life with Mr. Maybury -- who is the father of her child.
Prosecution witnesses said Ms Jacobs had thrown her right arm and the sound of glass hitting somebody was then heard.
Prosecutor Charmaine Smith had said: "As a result of it there was a cut on her forehead... she was bleeding after this.'' Ms Jacobs needed stitches for the wound.
