Man accused of assaulting girl
41-year-old man yesterday denied inviting the man into their home.
Magistrate Cheryl-Ann Mapp heard the testimony of the girl's 16-year-old brother who was in the house when the incident allegedly occurred.
The accused, who knew the family, visited her Warwick home on February 17, 1994 while her parents were not there.
The man told Police the girl's brother invited him in.
But yesterday the teenage boy said he did not invite the man in the house.
However, he admitted that he did not stop the man from entering.
"My brother and sister were inside, watching television,'' he recalled. "I knew him quite well, we always saw him at the house because he worked with my Godpapa.'' He said the man, once inside the house, made a telephone call to someone and drank half a flask of black rum which was on the table.
Then the man went inside to watch television with the children.
He said the man complained that he could not see the television and asked the girl to sit up beside him.
At this point the accused claimed he dozed off. But the girl told authorities the man put his hand down her pants and touched her private parts.
The man told Police that he could not remember the incident because he had passed out.
He also admitted that he often had blackouts when he drank.
The trial will continue tomorrow.
