Man alleged to have killed elderly woman appears in court

Richard Steve Williams, the man alleged to have murdered Maureen Edith Parker at her Devonshire home on September 27, was not required to enter a plea when he appeared in Magistrates' Court yesterday.

Williams, 25, of Paget was also charged with breaking into 67-year-old Parker's home with intent to steal on the same date.

Since these charges are indictable, he was not required to enter a plea.

In a separate matter, Williams denied breaking into Duncan Tucker's home in Paget on September 27, 1995 and stealing $3.

He also pleaded not guilty to prowling about Robert Ible's home during the night without lawful excuse.

Williams who is represented by lawyer Ms Victoria Pearman, will be tried for the summary matters on March 20, 1996.

He will appear in Magistrates' Court for mention on the indictable matters on October 17.
