appeared in Magistrates' Court yesterday.

Roger Sinclair Wainwright, 34, of Sunnyside Park, was not required to enter a plea to eight charges of making false statements and failing to surrender US cash to one of the Island's banks.

Crown counsel Ms Sharon Kenny, prosecuting, told magistrate the Wor.

Charles-Etta Simmons that between April 22 and October 10 this year Wainwright obtained a total of $22,841 in US funds.

Wainwright stated on the currency exchange forms that he needed the money for trips to New York City.

Ms Kenny asked that Wainwright not be allowed to fill out more currency exchange forms without the court's permission until the charges were dealt with.

But duty counsel Mr. Wilhelm Bourne, defending, told Ms Simmons that Wainwright had to leave the Island shortly on urgent family business.

Ms Simmons took this into account and gave Wainwright permission to purchase foreign currency for the trip only. She set bail at $1,800 with a like surety.

The matter is set down for trial on January 12.
