Man beaten at Westgate
Stephen Proctor, the Sandys man who Police shot with rubber bullets last month following a rooftop siege.
Reports last night claimed prisoners at Westgate Correctional Facility threw a sack over Mr. Proctor and beat him until he was unconscious.
Commissioner of Prisons Edward Dyer would not confirm the identity of the victim, but said: "We are investigating a report of that nature, that a man was beaten up.'' A spokeswoman for King Edward VII Memorial Hospital said last night that Mr.
Proctor was in a stable condition in a general ward.
Mr. Proctor, 52, is facing a trial on March 15 for allegedly assaulting a Police officer and behaving in a threatening manner.
After an officer shot Mr. Proctor three times with rubber bullets in January following a three hour stand-off on his roof in Rockywold Drive, Sandys, Police said he threatened his family and claimed he would kill Police officers.
Police have launched an internal investigation to find out if proper procedures were followed in the incident.
