Man charged over former Permanent Secretary's death
with causing the death of former Labour and Home Affairs Permanent Secretary Ernest Owen on March 25, 1995.
Mr. Owen would have celebrated his 55th birthday on Monday.
Robinson, of Kitty's Lane, was charged with causing Mr. Owen's death by reckless driving, causing Mr. Owen's death by dangerous driving, driving while impaired by alcohol, and failing to give a breath sample.
Robinson, who was represented by attorney Julian Hall, pleaded not guilty to all four charges.
Yesterday, prior to Robinson being charged and jury selection, Mr. Hall questioned the validity of the four counts against Robinson.
Mr. Hall argued that the charge of failing to give a breath sample was not an issue generally addressed in the Supreme Court.
And he said the prosecution should make a choice between charging Robinson with reckless and dangerous driving, instead of charging him with both.
But Principal Crown counsel Khamisi Tokunbo said all four counts should be addressed in the trial, since he said it constituted "a series of indictments against the Road Traffic Act''.
Acting Chief Justice Norma Wade adjourned the trial -- to allow Mr. Hall to attend to other matters -- after the five-man, seven-woman jury was selected.
The trial is scheduled to resume this morning.
