Jermel Williams, 26, broke free from the jail area of Hamilton Police Station at about 2 p.m. He had earlier appeared in Magistrates' Court charged with several driving offences and given bail.

It is still not clear how Williams managed to make his escape but yesterday a Police spokeswoman confirmed that he was still on the run and that a lookout had been posted.

Williams was wearing jeans and a white t-shirt when last seen.
