Man fined after `making off'
Court yesterday.
Dion Burgess of Warwick pleaded guilty to the March 25 offence.
Insp. Peter Duffy, prosecuting, said officers attended the Shopping Centre on Victoria Street at 3.15 p.m. in response to a complaint about Burgess.
When approached, Burgess swore at the female officer and said: "If I had a gun I'd shoot you.'' When taken to the Police Station, Burgess was too intoxicated to be interviewed, Insp. Duffy said.
"They had handcuffs on me so tight,'' Burgess told Senior Magistrate the Wor.
Will Francis yesterday. "anybody would've `made off'. I didn't mean to make off that much.'' In a separate incident, Burgess was fined $100 after he pleaded guilty to drinking in a public place on April 7.
Insp. Duffy said officers on patrol neat King Street at 8.10 p.m., spotted Burgess drinking Beck's beer.
"I was sitting off with a few friends,'' Burgess said yesterday. "I must admit I had a bit too much but I wasn't disturbing anybody.''
