Man fined, disqualified for drunk driving
all vehicles for one year after pleading guilty in Magistrates' Court yesterday to driving with more than twice the legal limit of alcohol in his blood.
Insp. Peter Duffy, prosecuting, said Police officers were travelling behind James Herrel on Kindley Field Road around 7.20 p.m. They noticed Herrel crossing the centre line a few times on his motorcycle.
Insp. Duffy said the officers stopped him and noticed his eyes were glazed and his speech slurred.
The lower of his two breathalyser results was 199 milligrams alcohol per 100 millilitres of blood.
Senior Magistrate the Wor. Will Francis fined Herrel of Cut Road $450 for driving while impaired and took him off the road for 12 months.
A 16-year-old Hamilton Parish youth was fined $500 in Magistrates' Court for dangerous driving and driving while disqualified by age.
Kevin E. Carter of Harlem Heights Road pleaded guilty to the charges.
Prosecuting Sgt. Kenrick James told the court that on January 27 plains-clothed police officers heard a loud noise coming from Carter's bike which was outside Whitney Institute on Flatts Hill, Smith's Parish.
"As the Police approached him, Carter accelerated at high speed and went on to Jennings Road, driving on the wrong side,'' Sgt. James said.
"Police found Carter on private property and took him to the Hamilton Police Station.'' For driving in a manner dangerous Senior Magistrate the Wor. Will Francis fined Carter $350 and disqualified him for six months from all vehicles and for driving while disqualified by age he was fined $150.
