The man was seen carrying a large bag while cycling along Harbour Road, near the scene of three house break-ins on Saturday night.

When approached by Police, he jumped off the bike and ran through the grounds of several homes before diving into the water.

The coastline was combed by Marine Police with the help of a member of the public. Police spokeswoman Sgt. Andrea Browne said the man was captured as he attempted swimming away.

A 34-year-old Warwick man is helping Police with inquiries.

CRASH CYCLIST BADLY INJURED AC Crash cyclist badly injured An 18-year-old Devonshire motorcyclist was yesterday under intensive care after ploughing into a traffic island following a collision with a taxi.

The teenager was in a group of cyclists when the accident occurred around 3.45 a.m. on Sunday on Palmetto Road, near Roberts Avenue, Devonshire.

Yesterday he was in "stable'' condition at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital.

Police spokesman Sgt. John Dale said the group of cyclists did not remain at the crash scene.

Anyone with information on the accident should contact Pc David Richardson, of Central Division, on 292-1458.

BREAK-IN SPREE CRM Break-in spree Thieves made off with a stereo speaker after breaking into a property in Radnor Estate Road, Hamilton, by smashing a cracked glass door pane.

Meanwhile, in Sandys a woman returned to find her home in Eastshore Road broken into. The thief, who had forced open a shutter, took some coins from a jam jar.

In a third break-in, an intruder slipped into a property in Trinity Church Road, Hamilton Parish, and stole a television and its remote control.

CHARITY SHOW FNR Charity Show Fund-raiser Mrs. Norma Nottingham is turning her attention to the Pembroke Parish Rest Home. Mrs. Nottingham has attracted a variety of top acts to take part in a charity fashion and entertainment show at the Centennial Hall, on Court Street, Hamilton, on Friday, November 20, at 8 p.m.

Acts will include Shine Hayward and Gene Steede and there will be appearances by Miss Tourism, Patricia Hollis, and Miss Bermuda Colita Joseph.

SNATCH MYSTERY CRM Snatch mystery Police are hunting a suspected handbag snatcher seen running from the New Queen restaurant, Par-la-Ville Road, and into Church Street.

He was spotted entering an alley off Trott Road around 8 p.m. last Thursday, rummaging through the bag.

Police have a description of the man, but there have not yet been any reports of a stolen bag.

"If any lady did have her handbag stolen we would like her to get in touch with our Central CID,'' said Police spokesman Sgt. John Dale. The number to contact 295-0011.

BURGLAR CHASED CRM Burglar chased A Warwick woman, who was alerted by the sound of a neighbour chasing an intruder off her property, later found someone had tried to break into her house. The woman, from Pearman's Hill, was disturbed in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Meanwhile, a peeping Tom found himself being watched as he spied on a woman in her Paget home. He was spotted by the woman's husband while he was walking the dog.

The husband gave chase through the grounds of the property but lost the man in a thick bushy area.

DRIVER FINED $425 CTS Driver fined $425 Driving an unlicensed car with no insurance landed a 50-year-old Pembroke man in Magistrates' Court yesterday.

Russell Gibbons of Rockville Close was stopped by Police officers on Cooks Hill, Somerset, on August 7. Magistrate the Wor. Cheryl-Ann Mapp fined Gibbons a total of $425 for the offences.
