A Warwick man has been fined after pleading guilty to possession of cocaine and cannabis.

Leon Sinclair Fough, 27 of Coral Hill Lane in Warwick was arrested by plain clothes Police on August 24 outside the Hamilton Workmen's Club in Hamilton Parish.

The officers had been on patrol when they were informed of possible drug activity in Workmen's Lane in Hamilton parish.

When officers arrived, they saw Fough engaging in a hand-to-hand transaction, and when they searched him, they found two twists, one containing white powder, the other containing plant material.

The contents were later found to be 0.21 grams of 89 percent pure cocaine, and 0.48 grams of cannabis.

In Magistrates' Court yesterday Acting Senior Magistrate Edward King fined Fough $250 for each offence. He also told the defendant that the offence had been committed in an Increased Penalty Zone (IZP), and so he was obliged to fine him an extra $1,000.

Mr. King gave Fough until March 31 to pay the fine, or serve six months in default.

UNEMPLOYED TEEN MADE FALSE CLAIM CTS Unemployed teen made false claim A young unemployed woman was told to go out and find a job on Thursday after being fined $1,500 for having no vehicle insurance and making a false claim to Police.

Tamara Spencer, 19, told Magistrate Edward King that she was not working when she pleaded guilty to the two traffic offences, which occurred on December 3 last year.

Spencer, of Lime House Lane, Hamilton Parish, was fined $1,000 for having no insurance, and $500 for making a false claim to Police Officers.

Mr. King said: "You have to make a job for yourself. Do not expect a job to fall in your lap. Do not expect anybody to give you a job. You have to make one.'' And he said the high fines represented how serious the offences were.

The teenager has until the end of February to pay the $500 fine, and until the end of April to pay the $1,000 fine.

THEIVES LEARN THAT CRIME DOESN'T PAY CRM Thieves learn that crime doesn't pay Incompetent thieves struck at Neptune Cinema and Afterhours Restaurant, on Wednesday and Thursday nights respectively.

At Neptune Cinema in Dockyard, the culprit entered through an unlocked door and made an unsuccessfully attempt to open the safe.

Nothing else was stolen in the foiled raid.

At Afterhours Restaurant on Middle Road in Paget, the culprit smashed a glass window and made an unsuccessful attempt at opening the cash register.

Again the thieves were forced to leave empty handed. But a thief made off with a wallet and cash Thursday night from a Pembroke home. The complainants were awoken by noise inside the house around 1 a.m.

They found someone had broken in and left a door open.

The culprit made good his escape.
