CAR DRIVER FINED $350 CTS Car driver fined $350 A Devonshire man who caused an accident earlier this year was fined $350 yesterday.
Graham Benjamin, 66, of Loyal Hill, pleaded guilty in Magistrates' Court to driving without due care and attention on February 18.
Police said Benjamin struck a wall before colliding head on with a car travelling in the opposite direction around 5.30 p.m.
When officers arrived at the scene they found an open beer can in Benjamin's car and they noticed he smelled of alcohol and his speech was slurred.
Because of his injuries, Benjamin was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital.
The driver and passenger in the other car suffered facial injuries and were also taken to hospital.
Defence lawyer Peter Smith said although Benjamin took full responsibility for the accident, he disagreed with some of the Police evidence.
Mr. Smith said the other car involved in the accident was driving at a very high speed and the collision occurred when Benjamin's car stalled as he was making a right turn.
