Man in custody tried commit suicide
for allegedly sexually assaulting a woman in broad daylight, has tried to kill himself.
Police prosecutor Sgt. John Dale told Senior Magistrate the Wor. Will Francis the suicide attempt occurred while the man was in Police custody on Thursday night.
Sgt. Dale said the man should be remanded in custody as a safeguard for himself and for the public.
The man, who was not represented by a lawyer, was remanded in custody until December 5 when he will stand trial in Magistrates' Court.

Colin Holder, 22, of New Jersey, pleaded guilty in Magistrates' Court to possessing .57 of cannabis.
Police prosecutor Sgt. John Dale said staff on the cruise ship Meridian , which docked in Dockyard, saw a passenger with plant material.
When Police arrived at the ship Holder -- who had two clear plastic bags containing plant material -- was pointed out to them, Sgt. Dale said.
Yesterday, Holder told Senior Magistrate the Wor. Will Francis he was sorry for bringing the cannabis into the Island.
He said he did not realised he had left the cannabis in his pocket when he arrived in Bermuda.
Holder, who was fined $100, said he really liked Bermuda and wanted to return.
FINED, DISQUALIFIED FOR DRUNK DRIVING CTS Fined, disqualified for drunk driving Driving with more than twice the legal limit of alcohol in his blood cost a 40-year-old Southampton man $450.
Wayne Simms, of Maripose Drive, pleaded guilty to the offence yesterday in Magistrates' Court.
Police prosecutor Sgt. John Dale said Police noticed Simms driving erratically in the Warwick Long Bay parking area at 12.35 a.m. on August 12.
Police followed Simms along South Road in which speeds up to 65 kmph were reached, he said.
Simms hit a concrete post near Sun Valley Lane in Warwick, but did not stop until he hit an embankment near Spice Hill Road.
Sgt. Dale said Simms' vehicle rolled over.
When Police approached the car, they found Simms uninjured but they noticed that his speech was slurred and that he was unsteady on his feet.
A breath analysis showed that Simms had 203 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood. The legal limit is 80 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood.
In addition to the $450 fine, Senior Magistrate the Wor. Will Francis took Simms off the road for a year.
MAN RODE WHILE DISQUALIFIED, IMPARIED CTS Man rode while disqualified, impaired A 42-year-old Devonshire man was yesterday fined $850 and taken off the road for three years after he was caught driving while disqualified and impaired.
Andre Madeiros, of Brighton Hill Road, pleaded guilty to the charges in Magistrates' Court.
Police prosecutor Sgt. John Dale said Police saw Madeiros on Church Street on August 4.
He went over the stop line in an erratic manner at the junction of Church and Parliament streets.
Sgt. Dale said when Police asked Madeiros to pull his bike to the side of the road, they noticed that he smelled of intoxicants and was unstable on his feet.
He was taken to the Hamilton Police Station where Police discovered Madeiros was already off the road for a year.
Madeiros was fined $500 for driving while impaired and $350 for driving while disqualified.
OUT OF PRISON AND BACK TO COURT CTS Out of prison and back to court Two weeks after being released from prison a 28-year-old Sandys Parish man was back in court yesterday on charges of breaking and entering.
Winslow Williams, of East Shore Road, pleaded guilty to the charge in Magistrates' Court.
Police prosecutor Sgt. John Dale said the occupant of a house on West Side Road in Sandys locked and secured it with an alarm system while off the Island on business.
But shortly after 8 a.m. on August 18, The Bermuda Central Station called Police, informing them that an alarm was activated at the residence.
Sgt. Dale said Police arrived at the house shortly before 8.30 a.m. and found Williams standing in the kitchen with a beer in his hand.
Williams told Police he was house sitting for a friend and then ran away.
He was later arrested at his own residence and charged with breaking and entering.
Yesterday, Williams told the court that he always went "down there'' to relax.
He said nobody was ever at the house and that he went inside because the door was open.
Senior Magistrate the Wor. Will Francis remanded Williams, who has a history for similar offences, in custody until a sentencing date could be set in the Supreme Court.
TEEN FINED $400 FOR DRIVING UNDER AGE CTS Teen fined $400 for driving under age A Warwick teenager was yesterday fined $400 for driving under age and giving a false statement to Police.
Graham Sutherland, 17, of Middle Road, pleaded guilty to the charges in Magistrates' Court.
Police prosecutor Sgt. John Dale said Police stopped Sutherland on Hermitage Road in Devonshire on August 11 after they saw him speeding on a motorcycle.
Sgt. Dale said when Police stopped Sutherland he told them his name was Ricky Cabral which Police discovered to be false.
After learning of his true identity, Police discovered that Sutherland was only 17 and therefore disqualified from driving motorcycles because of his age.
Senior Magistrate the Wor. Will Francis fined Sutherland $200 for driving under age and $200 for giving a false statement to Police.
