Man jailed for break-in
offensive weapon was jailed for nine months this week.
Robin Smith of St. John's Road, Pembroke told Magistrates' Court he broke into the house in order to get a drink of water to help take his medication.
He also said he was carrying the knife to cut herbs to use for treatment. Sgt.
Kenrick James, prosecuting, said as a woman left her house on the afternoon of July 2, she noticed Smith observing other homes. She returned home to find him in her house.
The defendant, who has previous convictions for burglaries, climbed out of the window, but was apprehended by nearby workmen. He threatened them with a kitchen knife before surrendering.
Smith told Senior Magistrate the Wor. Will Francis that he had the virus which causes AIDS and asked him to be lenient in his sentencing. Mr. Francis sentenced him to two terms of nine months and six months, to run concurrently.
