Man jailed for default on fine
outstanding fine for assault.
Kevin Wayne Smith, 41, of Vesey Street in Devonshire was arrested and brought before senior Magistrate Archibald Warner after a warrant was issued for his unpaid fine.
Mr. Warner asked why the fine had not been paid, to which Smith replied, "... I just started a job, how's that.'' Mr. Warner's shot back: "How's this, you must pay today or go to jail for 90 days. How's that?'' "That's fine'' replied Smith, and he was led away to begin serving his default time.
Smith was fined and given a six-month prison sentence suspended for one year in April last year after he admitted assaulting his girlfriend which included her being stabbed in the finger.
Smith claimed he had acted in self defence after she pulled a knife on him.
