Man stole suitcase out of Police car, fined $900
$900 in Magistrates' Court yesterday.
Yusef A. DeSilva of Cooks Hill pleaded guilty to breaking into a Police car, which was parked outside the emergency room entrance at the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital, and stealing $400 worth of clothing. He also admitted damaging the car.
Prosecuting Sgt. Earl Kirby told the court that at 1.45 p.m. on February 14 Police picked up a man from the Civil Air Terminal and took him to the hospital.
"While they were inside, DeSilva and another man not before the court, drove up alongside the locked Police car. The other man smashed the window with a crow bar and DeSilva reached in and unlocked the door,'' Sgt. Kirby said.
He added: "DeSilva then removed a travel bag and the other man removed other items in the car. They got back in their car and drove onto Berry Hill Road.
"The car was later found abandoned at the home of DeSilva's relative in Hamilton parish.'' Sgt. Kirby also said that DeSilva contacted Police and told them that he had sold the clothes and discarded the bag and other items at the Pembroke dump.
Senior Magistrate the Wor. Will Francis fined DeSilva $600 for stealing and $300 for damaging the Police car.
