More counterfeit bills found
from various stores and banks across the Island.
The bills, consisting of two $100 notes, 18 $50 notes and one $20 note, all in Bermudian dollar currency, first began appearing last Friday.
And fraud officers investigating the matter believe that more notes could still come to light.
Last night a Police spokesman once again urged all shopkeepers and customers to be on their guard when making financial transactions.
And he said the elderly, the young and people with poor eyesight should take extra care as they could easily be duped into accepting the cash.
The forged notes are believed to have been produced on a computer and are of an unusually good quality. They have been recovered from numerous stores and banks across the Island.
The spokesman added that any shopkeeper who is suspicious about any money being handed over should immediately contact the Police.
But he also warned that, just because a customer may use a forgery to pay for goods, that does not mean that they are the criminal responsible.
"It could be that the customer has been the victim of an earlier transaction,'' the spokesman said.
The three denominations are all thought to have replica serial numbers.
The forged $100 bill can be recognised by the serial number C/1 042686, the fake $50 has the serial number C/1 262927 and the $20 bill has the serial number B/2 910100.
Anyone with any information concerning the forgeries should contact the Bermuda Police Service's Commercial Crime unit on 295-0011.
