the Island's east end.

A Police spokesperson confirmed that a "significant quantity'' of pill bottles, syringes and other hazardous items had reportedly been discovered in the Tobacco Bay and Clearwater Beach vicinities.

"It is believed that the products may have drifted inshore from a damaged container in transit,'' the spokesperson added.

Environmental health officials were put on the alert earlier this month after substantial amounts of pharmaceuticals were washed up on beaches across the Island, in particular on the South Shore.

Investigations revealed that the drugs were coming from containers from the freighter Guyama , which were washed overboard in a storm last November.

Chief Medical Officer Dr. John Cann said one of the narcotics found then was Risperdal, a drug administered to people with mental conditions "and therefore dangerous to people that don't need them''.

Sporanox, the other drug that was found, is used to fight fungal infections and is also known as Itraconazole.

Police advise the public that if they find these items they should dispose of them or bring them into the nearest Police station.
