peaceful Sunday horse and buggy ride.

David Burrows, Sr. -- who operates the only horse-and-buggy tour in Somerset -- reported the incident, which took place around 6 p.m. near Watford Bridge, Sandys Parish, to Police.

"I had picked two English tourists up at Cambridge Beaches and I was taking them for a nice ride to Dockyard,'' Mr. Burrows later told The Royal Gazette .

But on the way back that "nice ride'' took a turn for the worse.

Mr. Burrows said as he was driving along Malabar Road toward Watford Bridge, two boys racing blue and white Yamaha DT50 cycles passed the carriage several times.

Just before the sharp left-hand bend at the foot of Watford Bridge, the two riders sped up from behind.

One of them overtook the buggy on the inside -- between the wall and the carriage -- which caused the horse to bolt.

Luckily, Mr. Burrows was able to calm the horse and bring it quickly under control.

The other rider remained behind the carriage "playing Mr. Innocent'' before he too sped off, Mr. Burrows added.

The carriage driver admitted that he shouted at the riders for scaring the horse and frightening the visitors.

But Mr. Burrows said the first cyclist returned to curse him off. "He shouted out `F*** you man' in full face of the tourists,'' he recalled. "They (the tourists) were really upset.

"I went to the Police and they said they would try to get them for swearing in public and dangerous driving. I'm doing my bit to stop hooliganism on the roads.''
