Bermuda's Attorney General is to keep the position until the end of November.

Elliott Mottley announced he was quitting the Island's top legal post in April.

He had been due to go home to Barbados by the end of June.

But he revealed to The Royal Gazette last night that he had signed a new contract taking him until November 30.

Mr. Mottley, 57, said there was "no particular reason'' why he was staying on, except that he "had been asked to stay on and had agreed to stay on''.

He added: "I have entered into a further contract. I had one until the end of June and now I have a further contract until November 30.

"I have been made no extra offers. I just agreed to stay on.'' Mr. Mottley has spent nearly three years in Bermuda.

His $117,000-a-year job comes with a house in Devonshire.

Government House revealed recently that five people had applied to take over the position.

It is understood two of the candidates are Bermudians.

Mr. Mottley added that he "did not know'' if those five were still being considered for his job.

"That's nothing to do with me,'' he said. "That would be up to Government House. I do not even know who has applied.''
