Mountie holds meetings
And Royal Canadian Mounted Police Commissioner Philip Murray has a packed schedule before he returns to Canada on Sunday.
Today he will visit the Paget Island Outward Bound programme off St. George's, visited only last week by Prince Philip.
Yesterday, Mr. Murray met Premier Pamela Gordon at the Cabinet Office and Governor Thorold Masefield at Government House.
A later meeting with Mayor of Hamilton William Frith at City Hall had to be cancelled.
On Thursday, Mr. Murray will tour Dellwood Middle School's sports day with P.c. Edward Lightbourne of the Police/schools liaison programme REACH, followed by a visit to Home Affairs Minister Quinton Edness, in charge of day-to-day policing matters.
Mr. Murray's official duties will end on Friday with a trip to the Prospect HQ of the Bermuda Police Service to meet Acting Commissioner Jean-Jacques Lemay -- himself on secondment from the Mounties -- and senior officers from the Island force.
The Royal Gazette revealed a week ago that Mr. Murray was set to visit the Island with his wife at the invitation of Mr. Lemay.
It was originally intended to be a private visit, but Mr. Murray decided to use the trip to cement relations between the Mounties, the Bermuda Police and the Island in general.
And it is understood that Mr. Murray will also take the opportunity to give his official blessing to Mr. Lemay, who is set to be offered a three-year contract as Commissioner around April or May.
