MP shows his financial interests

Register of Members' Interests, according to his file deposited at the House of Assembly on Tuesday.

Besides El James, who has yet to hand his form in, Mr. Morton was the last of the Island's legislators to comply with the rule which requires them to maintain a current list of their financial interests.

Mr. Morton disclosed that he is secretary of Airport Shops Ltd., has no clients to whom he is providing services related to his position as an MP and has received no gifts or sponsorships intended to influence his performance in the House.

He does own some property in Bermuda, which he rents out for residential purposes, according to his filing. But the Pembroke East Central representative did not specify, as required, the location of the property.

The Register was established last November after a six year campaign by UBP MP Trevor Moniz. Mr. Moniz is now trying to get it entrenched in Bermuda's Constitution.

A number of MPs missed the December 8 deadline for compliance. This week Mr.

James revealed a strong reluctance to hand his form in.

She said: "He was testing a Gloucester Gladiator and doing rolls when the wings fell off.

"When he tried to bail out of the plane and gave himself a good push off, the floor fell away. Then when he tried to push off from another piece of equipment his foot got stuck.'' "He broke his leg on landing at the aerodrome.
