MPs offer condolences, congratuations
death of two women who lived past their 80th year.
Shadow Health Minister Mr. Nelson Bascome paid tribute to Mrs. Frances Henrietta Dublin, of Pembroke, who died aged 82 last week, and Mrs. Gladys Vera Stovell, 91, of Warwick.
Supporting the sending of condolences, Shadow Minister of Community Affairs Mr. Leon (Jimmy) Williams pointed out that Mrs. Dublin had three sons, two daughters, 20 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, and four great great grandchildren.
Mrs. Stovell leaves an even bigger family, with two sons, two daughters, 44 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren, 28 great great grandchildren and one great great great grandchild.
Shadow Environment Minister Rev. Trevor Woolridge asked that messages be sent to the family of Mr. Willard Chesterfield Manders, 58, of Bailey's Bay. Rev.
Woolridge said Mr. Manders would be remembered for his involvement in football and cricket.
Youth and Sport Minister the Hon. Pamela Gordon paid tribute to Mr. William Joseph Brooks who died at the age of 86. Ms Gordon said Mr. Brooks was Bermuda's first swimming coach appointed to prepare the Island's team for the Berlin Olympics.
Congratulations were offered by Mr. Bascome to a number of local entertainers who played at Marriott's Castle Harbour Hotel.
He finished by wishing all the ladies in the House of Assembly "Happy Valentine's Day''.
Mr. Williams paid tribute to the Richard Allen AME Church for holding its "Men's Day'' over the weekend. Rev. Woolridge praised a similar day at St.
James Anglican Church.
The Sport Minister asked that a letter of encouragement be sent to the Bermuda cricket team after their victory over West Africa in the ICC tournament in Kenya on Sunday.
Ms Gordon also praised the national School Conference which invited guest speaker Mr. Bill Cosby over the weekend.
Her sentiments were backed by Shadow Minister of Education Ms Jennifer Smith.
Ms Smith praised Mrs. Carol Lee Trott and Mr. E. Michael Jones for sponsoring the exhibition of Mr. Charles Lloyd Tucker at the Bermuda National Gallery.
