MPS praise AIDS day organisers

And he pointed out one of the aims was for people to feel compassion for AIDS sufferers.

Shadow Education Minister Miss Jennifer Smith , Shadow Health Minister Mr.

Nelson Bascome , and Shadow Human Affairs Minister Miss Renee Webb associated themselves with the remarks.

Miss Smith also expressed regret over Mr. Thomas Pickering's death.

Mr. Pickering was her father's friend, and taught Bermudians welding.

Mr. Bascome asked for a letter of congratulations to be sent to Bermuda Graphics and Promotions.

Miss Webb congratulated those who took part in the Premier's concert.

And she praised the National Association for Reconciliation for its campaign in fighting racism.

United Bermuda Party backbencher Mr. Richard Spurling congratulated Bermuda's sporting efforts at the Central American and Caribbean Games in Puerto Rico.

He underlined the achievements of swimmer Chris Flook.

Mr. Spurling also applauded the reopening of the Somers Playhouse in St.

George's as a new movie theatre.

Southampton West MP Mr. David Dodwell (UBP) praised the Bermuda Bowl organisers.

To howls of derision from Government benches, Opposition leader Mr. Frederick Wade hailed the Bermuda Bowl as the realisation of his party's dream.

Human Affairs Minister the Hon. Jerome Dill praised the work of Ms Robin Sheppard in tackling racism by setting up focus groups.

Smith's South MP Mr. Trevor Moniz (UBP) congratulated the Church of Nazarene.

On a sadder note, Paget West MP the Hon. Harry Soares (UBP) asked for condolences to be sent to the family of Ms Astoria Ming.

He described her as a wonderful cook, pointing out how Christ had entered her life.

Pembroke West MP Dr. David Dyer (UBP) congratulated the Spanish Point Club.

Shadow Community Minister Mr. Jimmy Williams praised the entertainments committee of St. David's Cricket Club.

He also hailed Dr. Kern Reid, from St. George's, describing him as an "internal medical doctor''.

Several MPs also voiced regret over the death of carpenter Mr. Percy Francis.

Shadow Environment Minister the Rev. Trevor Woolridge congratulated the Keep Bermuda Beautiful campaign and the Bank of Butterfield for supporting the planting of 200 trees around the Island.

He also applauded the fifth year of the communications class of Berkeley Institute.

Tourism Minister the Hon. C.V. (Jim) Woolridge voiced regret over the death of a long-time visitor to Bermuda, Mr. Gerald Mills, an international civil servant in NATO.

He pointed out Mr. Mills' daughter was the wife of Bermuda's Tourism Director Mr. Gary Phillips.
