MPs praise Johansen
and sportsman Mr. Reid Johansen, who died on Sunday.
Mr. Johansen, who died from a heart attack, owned Reid Johansen Shoe Repairs in Washington Lane, and was the first president of the Blue Waters Anglers Club.
Premier the Hon. Sir John Swan said Mr. Johansen, 72, was devoted to his craft.
Tourism Minister the Hon. C.V. (Jim) Woolridge said he and Mr. Johansen were neighbours in Flatts.
"He was one of the first young black entrepreneurs,'' he said.
He was also a good horseman and cricketer, scoring a century in the Eastern Counties Cup.
Works Minister the Hon. Clarence Terceira , Mr. Nelson Bascome (PLP), Community Affairs Minister the Hon. Leonard Gibbons , the Hon. Harry Soares (UBP), and Mr. Eugene Blakeney (PLP), associated themselves with the tributes.
Shadow Education Minister Ms Jennifer Smith asked for a letter of congratulations to be sent to winners of the Teen Services awards.
The Hon. Haskins Davis (UBP) was among MPs to express condolences over the death of "dedicated civil servant'' Mr. Arthur Guest, a former Chief Immigration Officer.
Mr. Anthony Correia (UBP) voiced regret over the death of Ms Cecily May Simmons Stevens.
