New cruise fares unveiled

passengers this year -- the budget-conscious and the more free-spending.

Cruise prices listed in this week's New York Times Directory of Cruises Worldwide show Royal Caribbean Cruise Line's Song of America and Norwegian Cruise Line's Dreamward aiming for higher income customers.

Lower priced fares are advertised by Chandris Cruise Line's Horizon and Meridian and newcomer Majesty Cruise Line's Royal Majesty .

The most expensive cruises are offered by NCL's 1,246-passenger Dreamward , which will sail regularly from New York to Bermuda beginning on April 30.

The ship's prices for a seven-night cruise begin at $1,599 and rise to $3,729 -- the most costly Bermuda cruise ticket.

Seven-night Bermuda cruises by RCCL's 1,442-passenger Song of America begin at $1,329 and end at $3,129.

Chandris's Horizon offers seven-day cruises out of New York for a minimum of $975 to $3,095 -- the broadest range of prices offered on any ship.

Her sister ship, the 1,106-passenger Meridian , sails from New York for an industry low $745 to $2,695.

Majesty's Royal Majesty , Bermuda's newest ship, escapes the tag of lowest fare with a starting price of $899. However, the Boston-based vessel offers the narrowest price range with the lowest top fare of just $1,399.

The low price may reflect the cruise line's need to attract start-up business.
