The Bermuda Experience Network, formerly known as the Tourism Competitiveness Programme, revealed ten programmes that have been designed to enhance an Island vacation.

And Stacey Evans of BEN said more experiences were on the way as hospitality businesses started to offer enhanced activities, as part of the bid to revitalise Bermuda's tourism industry.

"Never have I witnessed such a commitment to the revitalisation of the visitor experience and this is only the beginning,'' she said. "Our goal is to create visitor experiences that exceed expectations.'' So far, vacationers can take in a jewellery escapers tour in Hamilton, beach finders adventure or trips to churches, forts or remarkable homes.

For $150, up to six people can be whisked by taxi to a quiet beach, where they can enjoy snorkelling and a gourmet lunch, before being taken back to their accommodations.

Or for $20, visitors can take a walking tour at one of several locations with Jo Cook.

The aim is to provide excursions which fit in with the market sectors identified by management consultants Monitor.

The Boston-based company, during its work with the Tourism Department, identified people looking for different vacation experiences -- romance, escape, exploration and soft adventure.

In Bermuda, a network of different companies and individuals were established to design experiences to fit those sectors.

For example, the Heritage Pass offers admission to six cultural attractions such as the Maritime Museum and Zoo -- which is expected to appeal to explorer type holidaymakers.

BEN members attended the launch of the new experiences, which are detailed in a new leaflet, at the Harmony Club.

Chamber of Commerce president Cris Valdes Dapena, who is to lead the BEN group, said: "Tourism is the foundation of everything in Bermuda's thriving economy. It requires revitalising.

"The Bermuda business community will lead the way. We are happy to offer our services to help the business community collaborate to get this vital job done.'' The colour leaflet highlighting all the experiences will be made available to hotels and Visitor Service Bureau.
