The National Liberal Party candidate in the upcoming by-election asked that Government clean up trash on the banks below the north side of Happy Valley Road.

And he wants to see pavements put in in the area of Prospect's CedarBridge Academy to safeguard students walking to the new school.

Mr. Jeffers said: "Residents of Happy Valley have expressed concerns about the conditions of the road and the surrounding area.

"Roads have not been cleaned in several months. Visible from the road are bags of trash and other discarded items on the banks below the north side of the road.'' He added: "Generally speaking, the stretch of road between Shelton Road and Montpelier are a disgrace.'' Mr. Jeffers also predicted an increase in traffic flow in the area after the new school opens.

He said: "Not only are there no sidewalks along this portion of Happy Valley, a check with the highways department revealed there are no plans to build sidewalks there.'' Mr. Jeffers pointed out that traffic heading into Hamilton is already heavy at peak times and the new school would mean increased traffic in both directions.

In addition, he predicted heavier pedestrian traffic with children who live in the area using the "narrow and potentially dangerous'' to walk to school.

He said: "It appears to me that, in the overall CedarBridge plan, no serious consideration has been given to this important area.''
