Old folks home in appeal for volunteers
Helpers are urgently needed for the old folks' recreational programmes.
Staff are particularly looking for volunteers to drive residents during evening and weekend outings.
They also want people to help with floral arranging, cake decorating, gardening, painting and pottery.
Other activities could include reading to the blind, writing letters, or helping with tea parties.
Currently just seven volunteers are helping staff to run the home.
"Volunteers need not be multi-talented, just caring,'' said Ms Suzanne Mahon, Lefroy House Activities Co-ordinator.
"By volunteering your time and services to the home, you can bring comfort and enjoyment to residents.
"You can also learn a great deal from the residents; some of their life experiences are of great historical significance to Bermuda.'' Ms Mahon added: "Volunteers get to share their talents and expertise which enhance our programmes.
"Volunteers in many ways are as important as paid staff.'' Recently several helpers received a certificate and pin in recognition of their service.
Among them were: Mr. Herbert Stirling, Mr. Allen Joel, Mrs. Gloria Packwood, Mrs. Pearl Garlin, Mrs. Ruby Robinson, Miss Barbara Frith, and Mr. Early Bascome.
Anyone interested in helping out at the home should call 234-0525, from 8.30 a.m.-4.30 p.m., Monday to Friday.
