INFLUENZA VACINATIONS DELAYED HTH Influenza vaccinations delayed Doctors will be vaccinating people for influenza later than normal this year due to a delay in receiving supplies.
The vaccine normally arrives from Canada and the United States in October or early November, but will not reach the Island until late November this year.
Chief Medical Officer Dr. John Cann said the delay -- caused by worldwide problems in manufacturing the vaccine -- will mean staff will be more busy injecting the vaccine in the winter months.
At first, it was feared the Island would not get an adequate supply of the vaccine, leading to vulnerable groups such as the elderly, the young and the sick receiving priority.
But Dr. Cann said: "We will get adequate supplies, but it will appear later than usual.
