The move comes after repeated incidents of people blocking the driveway.

"We do have problems with parking in our front driveway,'' said Corporation of Hamilton secretary Roger Sherratt. "The gates are being installed so we will have the ability to better control the traffic flow and parking there.

"The gates will enable us to close the driveway off for special events.'' Mr. Sherratt added: "We have had problems with large trucks making deliveries to City Hall,'' he said. "We have repeatedly asked them to deliver to the back of the building where we have a special delivery ramp. But it has been hard to persuade them to do that. We are hoping that with the gates they will do that.

"Another problem we have had is with large trucks parking in our driveway who are not making deliveries to us. They park on the driveways, on the sidewalks and even on the grass.'' The inconsiderate truckers have caused the Corporation to receive a number of complaints.

Said Mr. Sherratt: "We have had complaints from pedestrians, the elderly and the handicapped who have been unable to use the sidewalks.

"So we have installed these gates to prevent any unnecessary parking.'' TRAFFIC TFC
