Pedlar jailed for drugs
almost five and a half pounds of cannabis.
Kendricks Winslow Zuill, of Parsons Road, pleaded guilty on September 1 to possessing 2,457 grams of cannabis in four packages under a bed in his home on April 15 this year.
Chief Justice Austin Ward heard on Monday that Zuill, a licensed pedlar, was also found to have 449 pay-type envelopes.
Senior Crown counsel Brian Calhoun said a digital scale with traces of cannabis, and three more grams of cannabis were also found in Zuill's home.
Mr. Ward heard that Police narcotics officers had executed a search warrant on the home.
Zuill later told them he was holding the package for a man named "Phillip Shawn Eve or Edwards'' but they could find no-one with that name in Bermuda.
Mr. Calhoun said the amount of drugs was worth $122,950 if sold in half gram amounts or $32,500 if sold by the pound.
Before sentencing, Zuill's lawyer Chris LaVigne asked Mr. Justice Ward to be mindful when sentencing of his client's age and that he expressed remorse.
He added: "It was a co-worker who arrives at his home and gives him a package which he said were paint brushes that he became suspicious of. He is too trusting and honest with people.
Before he was sentenced, Zuill said: "I humbly apologise to the court and to the society whom is affected by the circumstances of my actions.'' He added he regretted the "grave mistake'' of possessing drugs for which he also accepted responsibility. He also said he had disassociated himself from anyone involved with drugs.
