PLP in plea for funds
polls.
And Premier Jennifer Smith has sent out a personal plea for people to dig into their pockets to pay off the campaign debt.
The appeal to balance the PLP's books came only days before the PLP unveils its first financial blueprint for the Country.
Ms Smith's letter said: "This victory was hard won and, not unexpectedly, quite costly for the party.'' She added: "We consider it important for the party to meet its financial obligations with despatch so that we can give our full attention to the long-term obligation of being a good Government for the people of Bermuda.
"This letter is being sent to solicit your support in making a contribution to assist the party in offsetting our election expenses.'' Ms Smith said the PLP's programmes, designed "to rekindle hope, heal Bermuda's present divisions and replace apathy and alienation with a spirit of optimism..have been overwhelmingly supported by the Bermudian public.'' But she added that the expense of winning last November's election meant an appeal to the public to offset the expense of the campaign -- thought to be the most expensive and sophisticated ever run by the PLP.
The letter added: "This support has been both tangible and intangible, including increased membership and donations.
"However, more is needed in order for the party to cover all of its election expenses.''
