Police cordon off area around nightclub

traffic around a large crowd of nightclub patrons who had gathered to watch two females fight outside the Odyssey nightclub.

Police Media Relations Officer Evelyn James Barnett yesterday told The Royal Gazette officers blocked off the road around 2.30 a.m., but no complaints or charges were laid in connection with the incident.

After a while, she said, the crowd thinned out and dispersed. She was not able to give an estimate on the size of the crowd.

One witness who asked to remain anonymous, however, reported to The Royal Gazette the crowd appeared to be about 300 strong and Police were keeping their distance, monitoring the scene from outside the Oasis.

"They weren't rowdy, but it was intimidating; I felt sorry for the tourists who had to drive through that.'' He also reported seeing an ambulance pull away from the scene with its emergency lights flashing at the time: "Somebody must've got hurt,'' he said.

This is the latest in a string of rowdy dust-ups to take place outside the Odyssey. Last week the operator of neighbouring ice cream shop took the Odyssey to task, claiming vomiting partiers and long lines of club patrons were ruining her business.

"The whole situation has become a nightmare for me and I am exhausted with (the) lack of concern for my establishment,'' Double Dip owner Doris Brooks told The Royal Gazette .

"Everyday before I go to work I have to wonder -- are my windows broken, will there be trash all around the store, do I have to clean-up vomit or dog mess.'' Odyssey owner Tracy Tucker responded the club was aware of Ms Brooks' concerns, but could not be expected to control the crowd outside the club.

The rider was apparently exiting the bend at Somerset Road, just north of West Side Road, when she lost control of the bike and collided with a nearby low wall.
