Police dismiss skull find as laboratory specimen
A human skull found in the St. George's area on Sunday is not from anyone who died recently, Police confirmed yesterday.
In fact, the skull found on Cut Road near Gates Fort had been professionally prepared for use in anatomy, and might have been used as a visual teaching aid in a biology lab, said P.c. Gary Venning of Police Community and Media Relations (pictured left).
Government Pathologist Dr. John Winwick examined the skull, which is missing the lower jaw portion, and made that conclusion, he said.
The skull is from a young adult, sex unknown. The age was not determined, but it is "not recent'', he said. Children found the skull while playing on Sunday night.
P.c. Venning said he wanted to dispel rumours that the skull was in any way connected with last year's disappearance of four-year-old Chaona Woolridge from St. David's.
