Helmet hooligans are being hunted by Police after hard hats were used as weapons twice in six hours.

Detectives revealed that a woman stormed into a house in Smith's Parish and began attacking an entire family, including a three-year-old boy, with her helmet.

The incident on Douglas Drive took place at 10.15 a.m. last Monday.

And Police are now looking for two men who set about a 43-year-old man with their helmets hours later.

Police said the second attack, at 4 p.m. on King's Gate Lane, Pembroke, left the victim needing 19 stitches to a cut lip.

Officers said he was riding his moped around a sharp bend when it collided with the two men on another bike.

The crash knocked the victim to the ground but he was set upon and beaten about the face and body before he could get up.

He was eventually able to run off and get hospital treatment for severe bruises and cuts to his lips and eye.

A Police spokeswoman said: "It's premature to draw a link between these two incidents or say that helmets are being used as weapons now.

"We are satisfied that these are isolated incidents and each attack was carried out by different people.

"Any assault causes us concern but we haven't noticed a trend with helmets.

"We honestly believe each incident can be treated as a one-off.'' American visitor Marion Williams told The Royal Gazette of her family's ordeal after the woman attacker stormed into the Douglas Drive house.

She said her three-year-old cousin was not seriously hurt despite being hit in the head with the helmet.

But Mrs. Williams added that her own 16-year-old daughter suffered a black eye when she tried to stop the woman launching into another helmet attack.

She added: "What happened to us was absolutely disgusting. This woman just stormed into the house shouting obscenitites and flailing this crash helmet about.

"She was striking me with blows about my head as I was trying to fend her off.

"Then she kept hitting me on my arm and now it's badly bruised. My cousin's three-year-old grandson was also hit in the head with the helmet.

"And my own children, who rushed to my aid, were hurt as well. My 16-year-old daughter suffered a black eye.

"We finally managed to get this crazed woman out of the house and she eventually ran off -- but only after telling us that she would be back to `rain on us'.'' Mrs. Williams added: "What was incredible about this was that she didn't steal anything. None of us knew her.

"And although this probably only lasted about five minutes, it seemed like an eternity.

"She was just absolutely crazy.'' Police said no arrests had been made but each incident was being investigated.
