But Jamel Treadwell Evans, 26, of Cedar Avenue pleaded guilty in Magistrates' Court to assaulting his estranged wife.
He will face sentencing for that charge after a trial tomorrow for the other alleged offences.
Police prosecutor Sgt. Phil Taylor quickly read a summary to show Senior Magistrate Will Francis the seriousness of the incident.
Evans went to his wife's home shortly after 4 a.m. on February 14 and asked to spend the night.
Sgt. Taylor said when friends of his wife, including her housemate, asked Evans to leave shortly after 4.30 a.m. he became violent and hit his wife in the head and repeatedly pulled her hair and only stopped after Police arrived.
Sgt. Taylor asked for a custodial sentence due to Evans' display of "a rather large amount of violence this weekend''.
Mr. Francis granted Evans bail at $1,500 with a like surety and ordered him not to have contact with the complainant.

When Police searched the area, they saw Simmons walking from Horizons Guest House property which was nearby.
He was interviewed and denied prowling. He said he was going toward Belmont even though he was walking toward Elbow Beach.
Sgt. Taylor said Simmons only corrected his mistake when strongly questioned by Police.

Mr. Francis remanded him in custody.
SUSPENDED JAIL SENTENCE FOR DRIVER CTS Suspended jail sentence for driver Senior Magistrate Will Francis this week gave a stern warning and a stiff sentence to a man with a slew of traffic convictions.
The warning came after Antrone Leon Simons, 33, of Happy Valley Road, Pembroke pleaded guilty to driving while disqualified on February 6 on St. John's Road, Pembroke.
He told Mr. Francis: "I was on my way to take my son an asthma pump.'' However Police prosecutor Sgt. Phill Taylor said Simons told Police when he was stopped that he needed to get his "push bike'' fixed.
Mr. Francis heard that Simons had a lengthy record of similar offences.
He asked Sgt. Taylor: "With all those charges he has never had a custodial sentence?'' Mr. Francis sentenced Simons to three months in jail, suspended for two years, and ordered him to pay a $1,000 fine. He also banned Simons from driving all motor vehicles for two years.
