Police probe raunchy rugby show
performers "flashed'' at the audience.
One performer bared his manhood during the show, and a woman revealed a glimpse of her private parts as she danced with players in G-strings.
Police spokesman Sgt. John Dale said yesterday: "We're enquiring into the situation to see if any offences were committed.'' He had no comment on reports that a uniformed Police motorcycle officer rode alongside a mock funeral procession during one sketch.
Police had not yet received any complaints about the show, he said.
The event, held at Front Street's No. 1 Shed last Friday, was a fund-raising party for the annual World Rugby Classic.
Skits were performed by each team in the competition, which features mainly older players.
News of the onstage antics brought an angry reaction from Mr. Dennis Carter, promotional manager at Scandal nightclub.
Mr. Carter faces a trial next March on a charge of promoting an indecent show.
He is pleading not guilty to the charge, which followed a dance competition at the club.
Yesterday he insisted that charges should be laid against organisers of the rugby function.
Meanwhile, one routine in Friday's show has outraged Mr. George Martin, a former rugby referee from Toronto who is in Bermuda to see the Classic.
Mr. Martin, 51, was shocked by a sketch he said featured two men, one dressed as a woman, who "simulated anal sex''.
"People were very well-behaved and it was a good night, but I don't think that particular act did anything for the World Rugby Classic, which so far has been really well organised.
"I thought it went too far. Quite a lot of people walked out after 10 minutes.
"It was an insult to women,'' said Mr. Martin, who was at the show with his wife. "It was gross, pointless and totally humourless.
"If it had been performed at a pub, the owners would be in trouble.'' Mr.
Martin said rugby events were often risque, but songs and sketches were usually clever and funny. "I'm not a prude, but this was stupid and obnoxious.'' Several organisers of allegedly "indecent'' shows have been prosecuted recently.
Scandal was fined earlier this year after a show with nude dancers. And two prison officers were fined following a "Luscious Lollipops'' strip show at their club. After an appeal, their fines were paid back and they were given absolute discharges.
