Postmistress for Bailey's Bay Post Office Mrs. Effie Ratteray was stunned on Monday, June 29, when a masked man armed with a knife demanded money. After giving him $1000, Mrs. Ratteray was ordered to lie on the floor until the next customer came in.

Mrs. Ann Powell, owner of The Rising Sun Shop on Middle Road in Southampton, reported a similar robbery to Police the following day.

She was in her shop alone when a man clutching a knife came in demanding money. She handed the man $130 and then chased after him with a mop as he fled on a motor cycle.

A Police spokesman said yesterday that a 31-year-old Warwick man was in custody assisting Police with their inquiries about the robberies.

The spokesman said the man would be appearing in court soon.
