THEFT WARNING CRM The Police Cycle Squad yesterday alerted the public that a number of motorcycles were not being properly secured.

And they warned there had been a sharp rise in crash helmet thefts because cyclists were tending to leave them on their bikes unlocked.

"Owners of motorcycles, in particular the popular trail-type bikes, are advised to use the specially designed `U' bracket locks which are fitted between the wheels and frames,'' a Police spokesman said. "Relying purely on the handlebar lock is not recommended as these can be forced.'' CREDIT CARD SCAM CRM A number of local businesses have been targeted recently by credit card scams, Police said yesterday.

Staff had supplied details to overseas callers claiming to be from credit card companies. The callers had then fraudulently used the details to make purchases.

Police spokesman Pc. Gary Venning warned credit card holders and particularly merchants not to give details of credit cards to unknown people over the phone.

CASH STOLEN CRM A Pitts Bay Road, Pembroke woman learned the hard way this weekend not to leave windows unlocked when going out.

She returned home on Friday night to find her house had been entered through an open window and $1,500 cash taken, Police reported.

Police also reported an attempted robbery on South Shore Road in Paget.

A man awoke to find a male intruder in his room. He jumped up and grabbed hold of the man, but he managed to escape.

Some $50 was believed to have been stolen.

CAR RAIDED CRM A Pembroke woman's purse containing about $380 in cash and other personal items was stolen from her car.

The vehicle, which had been left outside her Addendum Lane home, was entered on Friday night.

FLATTS FIRE FIR Firemen were called out when electrical wiring ignited at a property in Clarendon Lane, Flatts, at about 4.20 a.m. yesterday. Damage estimated at $160 was caused.
