Police seek witnesses to bank heist
pursuit of armed bank robbers to contact the leading investigator.
Spokesperson Evelyn James Barnett said several members of the public who were on East Shore Road, in the area of Honeysuckle Lane, Sandys, told officers the direction that the fleeing robbers had taken in the aftermath of the incident at the Bank of Butterfield's Somerset branch.
Those persons are asked to contact Chief Insp. Carlton Adams at the major incident room at 299-4315.
Reid H. Jones, 24, of Manchester Street, Sandys and Randolph G. Lightbourne, 31, of Devon Springs, Devonshire, were both charged last Friday in Magistrates' Court with using a firearm to rob the Bank of Butterfield of a bank bag containing $70,000 in cash while concerned together in Sandys Parish.
Lightbourne was charged with four additional offences, including using a firearm to commit an indictable offence, possessing a firearm and attempting to do grievous bodily harm to Clayton Simmons and Randolph Spencer and unlawfully wounding them at the same time and place.
Neither man was required to enter a plea since the offences are indictable or warrant a trial in the Supreme Court.
Meanwhile, Mrs. James Barnett said no court date had been confirmed for the third suspect in the robbery.
However, she noted that anyone else who may have other information on the robbery, but wishes to remain anonymous is asked to use the confidential Crimestoppers hotline at 1-800-623-8477.
