Police: Watch out for burglars

successes -- but Police yesterday warned that a handful of experienced criminals are still on the loose.

Police spokesman P.c. Gary Venning said yesterday that about 200 incidents of day-time burglary, break and entering, and prowling have been reported since September.

Thieves are targeting private and guest homes as well as smaller hotels Island wide, with pockets of increased activity in Hamilton, Warwick, Pembroke, and St. George's Parishes.

The task force -- which has made three recent arrests -- is headed by Acting Assistant Commissioner Vic Richmond. It is operating out of the Police Service's incident room.

Police are appealing to the public to: Remain aware, secure their property, and not leave large sums of money in the home; Report suspicious persons to Police immediately and obtain a good physical description of the person along with details of clothing, vehicles, and registration numbers; and Report any knowledge of persons engaged in criminal activity such as break and entering to Police or call Crimestoppers at 1-800-623-8477.
