Policeman was not hired
sex has not been hired as a high school security officer.
He did go through the selection process for the post but did not supply a certificate of good standing from his former employer so he was not hired, said CedarBridge Academy Board of Governors chairman Garry Madeiros yesterday.
The former Police officer quit after he was caught using Police computers to solicit gay sex. A young man he targeted complained to his superiors and he resigned.
An anonymous female Police officer leaked the news to The Royal Gazette earlier this week after hearing that the man had applied for a job as a security officer at CedarBridge Academy.
Mr. Madeiros confirmed that the man -- who cannot be named for legal reasons -- applied for the post of security officer and went through the interview process.
The selection committee was very impressed with the man who "came across well'' and had a religious background.
At the time of the interview he was still a full time Police officer and nothing was known about any disciplinary problems, added Mr. Madeiros.
"What we said to him was that we are very interested in you but we will have to check your references and receive a certificate of good standing from the Police Force,'' said Mr. Madeiros.
He added that, as he understood it, Police officers who left the force on good terms received this certificate.
"We told him that if you achieve this certificate, we will provide a job. It has not been forthcoming so the individual must have realised that he is not going to get the job.'' Mr. Madeiros explained that applications for school security positions were treated very seriously and applicants had to be of the highest integrity. A lot of applicants were looked at over a gradual period of time.
He said there were five officers at the school from 7.30 a.m. to 5 p.m. while two additional officers were brought in from 11.30 a.m. to 3.30 p.m.
These additional officers helped cope with the "high concentration'' period which included lunches and the end of the school day.
The individuals were recruited for these positions with a lot of qualities in mind. They had to be able to interact with the students, be very responsible and possess good communication skills.
