Praise for sports stars Brown and Mallory

The deaths of Mr. Ralph Mallory and Mr. Lance Brown over the past week have placed a cloud over the local sports scene.

The deaths of Mr. Ralph Mallory and Mr. Lance Brown over the past week have placed a cloud over the local sports scene.

Sen. Terry Lister and Sen. Milton Scott asked for condolences to be sent to the family of Mr. Brown who died after suffering a heart attack at the age of 36. He was a prominent member of the Somerset Trojans team which won a number of trophies in the 1970s and 1980s.

Sen. Yvette Swan praised grandfather Mr. Mallory, former Pembroke Juniors cricket and soccer star, who died at the age of 62.

The success of Dandy Town's treble-winning season was recognised by Sen.

Neletha Butterfield .

Senators joined together to send condolences to Mr. Willard A. Scott, father of Opposition MP Mr. Alex Scott and uncle of Sen. Milton Scott. Sen. Swan described Mr. Scott as a "stalwart of the Warwick East community.'' Also losing his father during the recess was former Sen. Wendell Hollis. Sen.

Grant Gibbons forwarded condolences to the family of Mr. Malcolm Hollis, a well known local farmer.

Sen. Swan asked for condolences to be sent to the family of Mrs. Blanche Sumner who died recently. She said that great, great grandmother Mrs. Sumner was a great ambassador for Bermuda having looked after many families of foreign workers on the Island.

Another great, great grandparent Mr. Lionel Abbott Darrell passed away recently, and Sen. Swan added Mr. Darrell to her list of condolences.

Senators Terry Lister and Milton Scott asked for messages to be sent to the families of Mr. Kioshi Ashley Lamont Edwards and Miss Zalita Diana Hunt, the teenagers who died tragically in a road accident in Sandys.

Civil servants who were awarded Government merit awards were praised by Sen.

Gibbons.

Environment Minister Sen. Gerald Simons praised the local anti-apartheid group for their celebrations of democracy in South Africa. Sen. Simons said: "Glenn Fubler, Ron Lightbourn and Clare Hatcher should be congratulated.

"The inauguration of Nelson Mandela as president and the ending of apartheid in South Africa was a cause the group promoted which was not always appreciated.' The Business and Professional Womens Association was congratulated on the 50th anniversary of having the political franchise, by Sen. Simons and Sen.

Butterfield.

Sen. Butterfield went on to praise the Bermuda Women's Christian Temperance Movement which celebrates 95 years of service this year.
