Prince Phillip to arrive
Duke of Edinburgh pays a flying visit to the Island.
Prince Phillip will be arriving today and is scheduled to leave Bermuda shortly before midday tomorrow.
During his stay he will be visiting several locations and presenting awards to participants of the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme.
And those who want to see him will really only have one option, when he stops by at the Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute tomorrow.
A Government spokesman said any member of the public who wanted to catch a glimpse of HRH should either await his arrival at 10 a.m. or his departure, which will be around 11.40 a.m.
There will be strict security for the visit, with Bermuda Police providing support to detectives from the Royal Protection Squad -- armed officers who always travel with the Duke.
After his private flight touches down at 1.30 p.m. today, HRH will be met by the Governor, Mr. Thorold Masefield, Lawrence Trimingham, chairman of the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme.
He will then be taken on a tour of the Co-Ed facility with the Premier Pamela Gordon and other Government officials.
Later the Police boat, Blue Heron , will take HRH to Paget Island, where he will be met by Acting Commissioner of Police, Mr. Jacques Lemay and Pc. Steve Palmer, from Outward Bound.
There he will watch students on the high ropes course, in canoes and will meet with the board of trustees at Main House.
Fourteen Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award recipients will receive their awards at a presentation later at Government House, and that evening Prince Phillip will be guest of honour at a private dinner there.
Tomorrow the Duke of Edinburgh will take in a tour of the Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute, with Lt. Col. Brendan Hollis, chairman of the board and Mr. Teddy Tucker, trustee and founding member. He then departs for New York at 11.40 a.m.
