PTA right behind new school's name
secondary school.
Chairman of the senior secondary school board Garry Madeiros this week announced the school would be called Cedarbridge Academy and its motto would be "Unity, Understanding, Success''.
He explained the board wanted a name which was symbolic and with which all Bermudians could identify.
The word "cedar'' was the perfect symbol for durability, strength, and growth, he said.
The word "bridge'' symbolised the intent of the new school.
Yesterday, National PTA president Anthony Steede said he was "very impressed'' with the name and the school.
"If they can follow through with what it stands for, the school will be a success,'' he said, adding that he was encouraged by plans for the school.
However, Mr. Steede stressed that none of the intentions would be met without a strong staff.
"That is crucial to the success of the school,'' he said.
And he said the National PTA was ready to assist education officials in "whatever endeavours'' necessary.
Cedarbridge Academy principal Ernest Payette said he too was "in full support'' of the school name.
"Mr. Madeiros' explanation was fully representative of what we're trying to do there,'' he said.
"We just hope that the school lives up to the reputation we hope it will have.''
