Quick action contains house fire
fire alarm and extinguisher.
Fire Services received a call at 1.31 a.m. and 11 firefighters in two trucks went to the home at Jennings Road, Smith's Parish.
The couple's quick action and preparedness prevented the home from extensive damage, Fire Services spokesman Lt. Jon Thompson said. Some $4,000 damage was caused to the dish washer and kitchen cabinets.
Lt. Thompson also took the opportunity to urge the public to become more aware of fire safety issues like alarms and the types of extinguisher available.
He pointed out that a dry chemical type of extinguisher would be an asset in every home as it could be used on all types of fire, while water-based extinguishers could not.
Lt. Thompson also pointed out that the early detection by a working smoke alarm could save lives.
