voter registration drive winds up on Wednesday.
And on based on current figures, 1995 is expected to eclipse the record set last year when 34,637 persons were registered.
Mrs. Marlene Christopher, Parliamentary Registrar, said she was extremely pleased with the results.
"This is the largest number we have had,'' she said in a prepared statement.
"We were aiming for 100 percent registration of all persons eligible to vote and it looks as if we may achieve it. I am very pleased with the figures.'' The Boundaries Commission's review of the constituency boundaries provided the impetus for the current push to register all eligible voters.
Canvassers from the Parliamentary Registrar's office and the Statistics Department began going door to door from the beginning of March to register persons who had not sent in their forms by the end of February.
This process will be concluded on May 31. The Parliamentary Registrar's office will process the forms over the following two weeks and the final list will be published on June 15. All registered voters will be eligible to vote in the Referendum on Independence on August 15.
