Thursday after missing 11 drill nights this year.

Private Dana Andrew Robinson, of King Street, Pembroke, was called "a persistent offender'' by Regiment commanding officer Lieutenant Colonel David Gibbons, according to Crown Counsel Wayne Caines.

Robinson had first been summoned before acting Senior Magistrate Edward King in October last year for missing drill nights. On that occasion Mr. King sentenced Robinson to three months in prison, suspended for 12 months.

"When you were last in here, you told me you were prepared to complete your 25 months in the Regiment,'' Mr. King said on Thursday.

"You never kept your word -- you have not done your duty,'' he added.

Robinson's employer, who refused to give his name, also gave evidence, saying: "Dana is a decent employee.'' Reluctant recruit given jail term "I would like to help him get his life together and keep him out of jail for the Regiment. We will do anything we can.'' Mr. King said: "Best thing you can do is to keep a space open for him. Here we have a man who people trust their lives in his hands and he neglected to answer the call to duty -- imagine if every member of the Regiment did that.

"This defendant shows blatant disregard for the court. He had a suspended sentence of three months handed down on October 5, 2000 which I shall activate and I sentence him to a further three months imprisonment, concurrent,'' Mr.

King said.

Robinson pleaded guilty to missing 11 Regiment drills from January 23 to April 3, 2001.
