Many Warwick residents and business owners say that with the increase in crime and drug selling in the community a Police presence is needed now more than ever. And they have been waiting 16 years for the station which was approved by Government in 1979.

"A survey of the files shows that the matter was actively discussed between 1966 and 1983 but that no decision was reached between relevant Government departments,'' the Police commissioner said.

He added: "I would be happy to reconsider this issue in conjunction with the constituency MP the Hon. Mr. Quinton Edness and the Minister for Labour and Home Affairs the Hon. Mr. Irving Pearman.

"It will be necessary for us to take account of the crime levels, the demographic construction, and the overall need for the Police Service in that area.'' However, Mr. Pearman said there were no plans to build a Police sub-station in Warwick in the near future as money was being spent refurbishing the Somerset station, Hamilton station and the Prospect headquarters.
